The Lomax, Liverpool
31st March 2002
Jil and ?
think everyone was expecting tonight to be a bit of an anti-climax after last
nights show, so when it went so well everyone was taken by surprise.
Sadly the venue was not full, presumably a lot of people couldn’t make
the re-scheduled date (which was infact the only reason I went).
Still, the audience really did make up for the lack of numbers.
show was really cosy and friendly, Tobe freely chatted with members of the
audience (e.g. Audience member: “Play something we all know!”
Tobe: “White Christmas?”)
stage invasion occurred during 'Too Much Too Young',
Tobe invited Dave Booth to sing with him but two very drunk girls also joined in
(I think Toby regretted saying “the more the merrier” at this point!).
should also point out that tonight Toby only broke one guitar string (during 'Don’t
Pray For Me').
highlight for me was Nick specially playing a small arpeggio into one of the
solo’s (he was trying to teach me it earlier in the day). Needless to say I was suitably impressed.
I feel I should also mention Roger’s incredible bass playing here as
well, as I have perhaps overlooked this a little in my reviews too – he is
also an incredibly talented guitar player (as well as being a good producer).
The man really is multi-talented.
also only really watched Matt E on drums tonight for the first time (being a
guitarist I tend to watch the guitar players) but I have to say his drumming was
phenomenal and I was again suitable impressed. Toby really has managed to put a fantastic band together.
